75B3. Charles Bassett, son of Mary Bassett

Charles Bassett was born in 1828 in Illinois. He died 6 Jan 1907 in Hornersville, Dunklin County, Missouri (PI). He married Mary Crouch, daughter of Elizabeth (Able) Crouch (she was daughter of Caleb Able), on 26 Sep 1861 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky (PI). Mary was born 4 Mar 1843 in Jefferson County, Kentucky (PI). She died about 20 Sep 1922 in Hornersville, Dunklin County, Missouri (PI).

Charles served in Company B, 144th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. He was mustered in in 6 Mar 1865 and left on 9 Mar for Harper's Ferry, Virginia, where it was assigned to the 1st brigade, 1st provisional division, Army of the Shenandoah. He was mustered out on 5 Aug 1865.

There were sworn statements in his pension file by Ruth Ann Kibler of Clark County, Illinois and William Crouch of Harvey County, Kansas saying they had grown up with Charles and Mary, knew them before they married, and were present at their marriage.

Charles applied for Invalid Pension 14 Sep 1891 in Dunklin County, Missouri. On 2 Nov 1891 Charles filled out another requested Affidavit in Mississippi County, Arkansas. On 20 Jul 1892, Charles was examined by doctors in Osceola, Mississippi County, Arkansas. He was diagnosed with hip disease and classified Invalid. By 26 Jul 1896 Charles was again living in Hornersville, Dunklin County, Missouri.

Mary applied for a Widows Pension upon the death of Charles. She stated in her application that all children were married, she had no other income and no real estate. The only date that records here death is a copy of a returned pay envelope with the hand written notation "This party is dead. She died about ten days ago.". The earliest postal stamp (Hornersville) is 2 Oct 1922. Pensions are paid out on the 1st so death date is about 20 Sep 1922.

Mary was living with her son Della E. in Mississippi County, Arkansas during the 1910 census.
